High School

Sean Trinque (pronounced Trank) is the Varsity Mountain Bike Head Coach at Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky.   Coach Trinque has a history of success as a racer and now as a collegiate coach.

Though he represents Union College, Coach Sean describes the landscape of mountain biking opportunities at different levels for those that are interested in pursuing mountain biking while obtaining a college education.  He is quite frank in setting the expectations of a Student-Athlete and provides some great advice for all students male and female that are pursing a college education.

The Union College Cycling Team is based out of Barbourville, KY and has been a sponsored varsity college cycling program since 1998

Darron Boatright, Wichita State Athletic Director

Darron Boatright is a native of Marshall County and was named Director of Athletics at Wichita State in 2016 after serving as the department’s chief operating officer, then interim director, since April 2015.

Darron discusses the lessons he learned from his dad while coaching his own son and the challenges of Mark Gottfried to add value to a program while at Murray State University, then onto the wild west atmosphere of the SEC (Southeastern Conference) and the University of Alabama.

There are somethings you do for a paycheck and Darron will tell you there are others that you do for the love of a sport he reveals a personal project and discovery he made that spans generations of Legendary National Championship Basketball Coaches.

Mitch-Cothran

Mitch Cothran dribbles while Dax watches from the bench.

Mitch Cothran is one of the all-time great shooting guards for the boy’s basketball team at Marshall County High School.  Mitch played during the Coach Hatcher era and talks about the atmosphere when Marshall County played Graves County, Oak Hill Academy and other highly ranked competitors.  Many players from those teams went on to play Division 1 basketball and in the NBA.

Ed Jones played basketball at Benton High School scoring the first varsity basket in the Chambers Memorial Gymnasium and later coached the last Benton High School Basketball team before becoming the first athletic director of the Marshall County High School consolidation.

Jones attended college at University of Tennessee at Martin, where he held numerous records in men’s basketball.  Coach Jones emphasized with great success fundamentals and developing players to make decisions.  He continues to use his leadership development skills in mission projects through the Benton Church of Christ.

Billy Chumbler as a basketball player the Greatest Lowes Blue Devil of all-time.  He set the Louisville Invitation Tournament (LIT) scoring record.  He was recruited by Adolph Rupp of the University of Kentucky but chose to play college basketball at Mississippi State University and was the team captain at Murray State University.

As a coach, Chumbler was inducted into Illinois Coaches Hall of Fame with an Illinois record of 492-196. He coached at Cairo High School and Century High School in Illinois. He coached at Paducah Tilghman and Trigg County with a Kentucky record of 288-93 compiling an overall high school coaching record of 780-289.
