Allan Hatcher coached the Marshall County High School Boys Basketball team for 6 seasons and won 4 Regional championships.  Willie Akers,  Jerry West, Joe B. Hall, Rick Pitino, C.M. Newton, Terry Birdsong, John Solomon, Mitch Cothran and Barry Goheen are just a few of the people mentioned in this interview.

These were exciting times in the Marshall County High School Basketball programs where the teams played consistently in front crowds exceeding 5,000 people.  Coach Hatcher talks about the importance of community involvement, playing tough competition and his efforts that prepared players to be successful in their adult roles and responsibilities.

Barney Thweatt is the common thread that ties a tradition of great Marshall County Basketball to the powerhouse known as the Christian County Colonels.  Success has been a constant companion of Barney Thweatt.

Barney Thweatt was a member of the 1947 State Runner-up and 1948 State Champion Brewers Redmen team.  Barney’s team was ranked number one all year and went undefeated in 1948.  In fact, Brewers is the last undefeated Kentucky Boys High School Basketball team to be crowned State Champions.

Michael Jordan letter to Paducah Tilghman High School Basketball Coach to Billy Chumbler for Team Academic Achievement

Billy Chumbler as a basketball player the Greatest Lowes Blue Devil of all-time.  He set the Louisville Invitation Tournament (LIT) scoring record.  He was recruited by Adolph Rupp of the University of Kentucky but chose to play college basketball at Mississippi State University and was the team captain at Murray State University.

As a coach, Chumbler was inducted into Illinois Coaches Hall of Fame with an Illinois record of 492-196. He coached at Cairo High School and Century High School in Illinois. He coached at Paducah Tilghman and Trigg County with a Kentucky record of 288-93 compiling an overall high school coaching record of 780-289.

Randy Wyatt is a Paducah Tilghman High School coach that has won multiple KHSAA State Championships in multiple sports as a coach and an athlete.
Randy describes the mindset that is required to win championships. He provides insights from his early influences on his career.
Many coaches and players excel in a single sport. But Randy Wyatt has a resume that is in very select company by winning championships in football and track as a coach and dominating his track events as an athlete.
What does it take from a player, parent and a coach to bring home championships? It is probably not what you think.
